Movie Help Web Popcorn Kernels:

A fun little flick, it not so much rehashes as revamps the old TV show and brings it into the 21st century. It seems to match the humor/comedy of a typical episode expanded to a few hours.

The plot focuses on Isabel (Kidman), a real witch who wants to give up her magic in order to live in the real world. Why I cannot fathom, but she does. Her father (Caine) is also skeptical, and opines that she really won't stop using her powers. He's right. She can't help it, but seems annoyed and/or ashamed whenever it happens. At least at first.

As Isabel settles down in a "normal" life, we turn to Jack Wyatt (Ferrell), a movie star who's star is sinking quickly. His last hope is starring in a remake of Bewitched, but this time the husband is the focus and not the witch. He has to find an unknown to play against, preferably someone without acting experience. But who can play a witch with conviction? Yeah, guess who!

It's a pretty fun film, a romantic comedy with magic as a backdrop. After the thrashing I gave Ferrell for his wretched Anchorman I didn't think he would be a draw (I was really watching this for Kidman), but he surprised me. I guess it's the movie and not the lead actor I hated. A relief, as I wouldn't mind seeing other Farrell films.

If you enjoyed the TV show you'll probably like this. If you don't remember the show, don't worry, there aren't too many in-jokes. It can be enjoyed as-is.
