Ed Wood, Jr.
Born October 10, 1924 - Poughkeepsie, NY
No list of directors would be complete without good 'ol Ed Wood.
Arguably the worst director in Hollywood history, I would contend that, no matter how awful his movies may be (and they are), at least he was sincere in his vision and hard in his work.
His "breakthrough" film was Glen or Glenda, a bizarre look at his own transvestial life (and fantasies), but his true masterpiece is the classic Plan 9 From Outer Space. A complete and total mess from beginning to end, he followed it with a number of other sci-fi/horror flicks that were just as laughably bad.
Wood thankfully faded from the mainstream and ended up directing soft porn features before his death.
Personal Quote: "One is always considered mad when one perfects something that others cannot grasp."
