Sigourney Weaver

This powerful, striking actress was born into a wealthy family, her mother a British actress and her father, a TV producer. The family moved constantly when she was a child, but she managed to adapt to her surroundings and make use of her natural quick intelligence to do well in school.

She originally studied English Lit but appeared in numerous plays, finally moving to TV and then the silver screen a bit later, overcoming director reservations about her height.

Her first big hit was the sci-fi classic Alien, and she's been in multiple hits thereafter, including Ghostbusters and Gorillas in the Mist.

A personal quirk: she is afraid of riding in elevators.
