Steven Spielberg

Born: December 18, 1946 - Cincinnati, Ohio

Perhaps the best-known director in the world, he is also one of the wealthiest. A number of his trademarks in films include: shots of the sun, moon, and stars; placing children in some form of danger or difficult situation; frequently absent fathers and/or parental figures; and frequent references to Disney.

He went to Long Beach University but dropped out to pursue his film career, which has been going strong ever since. Amusingly (possibly not to him) he applied to USC Cinema School twice and was turned down both times. Some of his more famous movies include Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Jaws, which was arguably the first blockbuster and had a profound impact on the movie industry. Not well known is his affinity for animation, of which he has produced and directed many features, including many Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs and Tiny Toons specials.

Personal Quote: "I think that the Internet is going to effect the most profound change on the entertainment industries combined. And we're all gonna be tuning into the most popular Internet show in the world, which will be coming from some place in Des Moines. We're all gonna lose our jobs. We're all gonna be on the Internet trying to find an audience."
