George Clooney
Born: May 6, 1961 - Lexington, Kentucky
This handsome, intelligent actor/director grew up in Lexington, the son of a TV talk show host and newscaster in Cincinnati.
George decided not to go into journalism, making use instead of his athleticism by attempting to join the Cincinnati Reds. Clooney's baseball tryouts were unsuccessful, but he found work through family in the movie business.
Clooney appeared in various television shows including The Facts of Life before achieving breakthrough success as a rules-bending doctor on ER. He was one of the earliest to leave that ensemble cast, becoming a major box office draw and leading man at the beginning of the decade. Known for quirky roles and characters, Clooney has also anchored his own Rat Pack, first remaking Frank Sinatra's classic Oceans 11 and following that with a sequel.
The baseball player turned actor has now turned his eye towards the other end of the camera and is fast becoming one of Hollywood's best known directors.
