Ben Affleck

This handsome actor and frequent tabloid victim was born in California, but grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Two of his life's dreams were to play his comic-book hero Daredevil and become an actor: both wishes came true.

Starting in commercials and on TV, Affleck first appeared on screen at only 12 years old. After several unheralded roles, he and good friend Matt Damon finally had a studio buy their script for Good Will Hunting, and after gritty performances by both and a fanastic turn by Robin Williams, carried home Academy Awards.

Affleck (shown talking to sailors in 2003 aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise) has said he has political aspirations and is an active campaigner for Democratic candidates, including Al Gore in 2000 and John Kerry in 2004. He is also known for his roles in Pearl Harbor and, unfortunately for him, Gigli, made with his on- then off-love, Jennifer Lopez. Bennifer, as the couple became known, were tabloid fodder for years, but Affleck may have been used to the attention after first being romantically involved with Gwyneth Paltrow. Affleck married actress Jennifer Garner (TV's Alias) after the two co-starred in Daredevil. The movie was a critical and commercial bomb, but he got his childhood wish and got the girl too.

Writer-director Kevin Smith is also an Affleck fan, and Ben has appeared in most of Smith's films, including his first big role in Mallrats. Since then, he has appeared in Smith films more than once with Damon, and perhaps most memorably in the irreverent Dogma. Affleck and Damon played fallen angels in the religous fable with multiple plots that also starred Chris Rock, Selma Hayek and Alan Rickman.

Ben owns at least five motorcycles, is a rabid Boston Red Sox fan and speaks Spanish and Arabic.
