NBC: 2006-2007 Primetime Schedule

May 15, 2006 News

NBC fans, say hello to four new comedies and six new dramas next season, plus the return of the NFL. Based on the network's press release today, here's what we can expect:

Coming in Fall 2006

20 Good Years

Timeslot: Wed., 9:00-9:30 p.m.
Genre: Comedy
Premise: Two New Yorkers -- one impulsive, the other neurotic -- decide that since they've got only so much time left to live, they'll live life to its fullest.
Reminds me of: The Odd Couple, and a lot of other mismatched buddy comedies.
Famous names: John Lithgow and Jeffrey Tambor as the friends.

30 Rock

Timeslot: Wed., 9:30-10:00 p.m.
Genre: Comedy
Premise: The head writer of a live TV sketch-comedy show must deal with a new network president and a new cast member.
Reminds me of: A live TV sketch-comedy that happens to be on NBC Saturday nights, and one of NBC's other new shows (see below).
Famous names: Tina Fey, who in real life happens to be one of the head writers for a live TV sketch-comedy show, and Alec Baldwin as her boss.

Friday Night Lights

Timeslot: Tue., 8:00-9:00 p.m.
Genre: Drama
Premise: A new high school football season starts in a small Texas town.
Reminds me of: The book and movie of the same name.
Famous names: Executive producer Brian Grazer, director Peter Berg (who also directed the movie).

Heroes

Timeslot: Mon., 9:00-10:00 p.m.
Genre: Drama
Premise: Some ordinary people discover they have extraordinary powers.
Reminds me of: No show or movie in particular -- the superhero stories I've seen usually are about individuals rather than ensembles, and the X-Men aren't ordinary enough.
Famous names: Adrian Pasdar and Milo Ventimiglia, as two of the heroes.

Kidnapped

Timeslot: Tue., 9:00-10:00 p.m.
Genre: Drama
Premise: A teenager is kidnapped, sparking a series of maneuvers by the FBI, the kidnappers, and the family's team of private negotiators.
Reminds me of: Real-life hostage dramas.
Famous names: Delroy Lindo, Timothy Hutton, and Dana Delany.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip

Timeslot: Thu., 9:00-10:00 p.m.
Genre: Drama
Premise: The head of a live TV sketch-comedy show has a meltdown, and the new chief of entertainment hires a creative team to save the show.
Reminds me of: A live TV sketch-comedy that happens to be on NBC Saturday nights, and one of NBC's other new shows (see above).
Famous names: Writer-executive producer Aaron Sorkin, Bradley Whitford, Matthew Perry, Timothy Busfield, and Steven Weber.

Also coming: Sunday Night Football, Football Night in America
