He Might Not, But He Sure Is Good At Them!: Denzel Washington stated recently that he doesn't seek out the military, cop, or anything that puts him into a uniform roles. Thankfully they seem to seek him out: he played a fascinating detective in Training Day, and a lt. commander in the movie Crimson Tide. Now, of course, he is featured in The Manchurian Candidate. I for one don't mind giving him a salute for his excellent acting abilities.
Oldie But Goodie: No, it wasn't the latest from Jack Black, Eddie Murphy, or any modern comic. In fact, it was the first feature-length film Hollywood produced: Tillie's Punctured Romance that brought down the house. The Samuel Goldwyn Theater, to be precise. Just goes to show you, humor can improve with age, like a fine wine.
Shaken And Stirred: Pierce Brosnan may not return as 007 in the next installment. "That's it," Brosnan told Entertainment Weekly magazine in a story published on its Web site. "I've said all I've got to say on the world of James Bond. Bond is another lifetime, behind me." But MGM and the producers haven't actually come out and confirmed this. So, unless you are a spy and can figure it out, the rest of us have to wait and stay tuned.
A Sad Trek: Jerry Goldsmith, the very active composer who created the memorable scores to films such as Star Trek and Alien, and TV shows The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Waltons and Perry Mason, died in his sleep at his Beverly Hills home following a long battle with cancer.
But Does He Still Get Paid?: Old actors never die, they just get digitally inserted. Laurence Olivier, who died more than 15 years ago, is going to have a small part in the upcoming sci-fi Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. This from the current star, Jude Law. I wonder if they get to share a dressing room?
Last, But Not Least, Those Who Deserve What They Get: The marketers of the sexually explicit Girls Gone Wild videos agreed to pay nearly $1.1 million to settle government claims that the company shipped unordered products and then charged customers for them. Unfortunately this is probably just pocket change to them: as we all know, sex sells.
