Week of May 2

Robert Downey Jr. shows the bad guys what he's made of in Iron Man, which kicks off this month's new movies. Jon Favreau's third directorial effort features Downey as Marvel Comics' Tony Stark, an industrialist who fashions a super-duper suit of armor for himself; Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, and Terence Howard co-star.

Made of Honor is the ultimate counterprogramming to Iron Man. The romantic comedy stars Patrick Dempsey as a ladies' man who suddenly realizes he's in love with his best friend (Michelle Monaghan) —. Naturally, there are complications — namely, her engagement to someone else, and his role as "maid of honor" at her wedding.

Also out this week, in limited release: Redbelt, a MMA drama (penned and helmed by David Mamet) starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tim Allen, and Emily Mortimer; Son of Rambow, about two boys who decide to shoot their own version of Rambow: First Blood; and Mister Lonely, a comedy-drama from Harmony Korine.

Week of May 9

Thirteen years ago, Johnny Depp was cast in the title role of Speed Racer. This weekend, after countless delays and numerous changes in director, screenwriter, and cast, the live-action adaptation of the 1960 anime series finally roars into theaters. Emile Hirsch stars in the title role, with John Goodman and Susan Sarandon as his parents and Lost's Matthew Fox as Racer X; the Wachowski brothers are behind the wheel as writers, directors and co-producers.

What Happened in Vegas is this week's Made of Honor. The romantic comedy stars Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz as two strangers who meet in Vegas, get drunk, get married, and get rich when Kutcher wins a jackpot. There's one small problem — to claim their money, they have to live together for six months.

Also out this week, in limited release: Frontier, a French thriller set at a secluded country inn; and The Fall, about a stuntsman (Lee Pace of Pushing Daisies) whose tales about mythical heroes start blurring the line between fantasy and reality for a young girl.

Week of May 16

Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie return to Narnia and help battle an evil king in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. The follow-up to 2005's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe features the voices of Liam Neeson (as Aslan) and Eddie Izzard (as Reepicheep, Prince Caspian's chief servant).

Also out this week, in limited release: Reprise, about two best friends and who are also writing rivals; How the Garcia Girls Spent Their Summer, a comedy-drama involving three generations of Mexican-American women; and Sangre de mi sangre, an indie immigrant drama about a boy searching for his father in Brooklyn.
