Golden Globes awards show cancelled

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association said today that due to the writers' strike, this year's awards show, which had been scheduled for Sunday, will be replaced by a news conference announcing the results. The association had hoped to get a waiver from the Writers' Guild allowing its members to cross picket lines but failed to receive it, and a threat from actors to boycott the ceremony was the final factor. Perhaps this will encourage film studios and production companies to reach an agreement in time for the Academy Awards telecast.
