Christie, Blanchett Head List of Academy Award Best Actress Nominees

2008 Academy Awards

Julie Christie has the best chance of winning the Academy Award for Best Actress this year, though Cate Blanchett and fisrt-time nominee Ellen Page can't be counted out. Take our poll below and tell us who you think will take home the Oscar Feb. 24.

Cate Blanchett
Movie: Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Role: The virgin queen of England, twenty-odd years after the events in Elizabeth.
Track record: Blanchett also received a Best Actress nomination for Elizabeth.
Chances: Blanchett has a better chance of winning a Best Supporting Actress award for I'm Not There.

Julie Christie
Movie: Away From Her
Role: A married woman who moves into a nursing home and develops a relationship with another resident.
Track record: This is Christie's fourth Oscar nomination in this category; she won in 1966 for Darling.
Chances: Christie won a Golden Globe for this role, and is the favorite to win an Oscar too.

Marion Cotillard
Movie: La Vie en Rose
Role: Chanteuse Edith Piaf.
Track record: None — this is her first Oscar nomination.
Chances: Cotillard won a Golden Globe and various film society honors for this part, but she'll probably lose out to Christie.

Laura Linney
Movie: The Savages
Role: One half of a brother-sister pair brought back together when they must take care of their ailing father.
Track record: Linney received a Best Actress nomination in 2001 for You Can Count on Me.
Chances: In another year, Linney would be a strong candidate. This time around, she'll be another also-ran.

Ellen Page
Movie: Juno
Role: A teenager who thinks she has found the perfect couple to adopt her child.
Track record: None — this is her first Oscar nomination.
Chances: The dark horse of the bunch, Page could pull off a surprise win.
